Corrosion protection and joint sealing

One install, decades of protection.

The weakest point of a pipe is the joint, and that is what Kampek protects. We supply Covalence, Stopaq and BG Industry corrosion protection and joint sealing systems to Finland's district heating, gas and oil networks.

What Kampek protects

The weakest point of a pipe is the joint. That is where corrosion starts.

Whether it is a district heating line, a gas pipe or an industrial process line, damage almost always starts at the joint or where the steel is left bare. Kampek supplies the protection for exactly those points. The product families split into two jobs.

Job 1: Joint sealing

Sealing the joint casing of pre-insulated district heating and cooling pipes. The joint stays dry, and the insulation stays dry for the service life of the pipe.

Covalence · BG Industry
Job 2: Corrosion protection

Protecting buried and industrial lines against external corrosion. Self-healing protection for bare steel, applied cold without blasting.

Why it lasts

One install lasts the service life of the pipe in the ground.

The figures come straight from the manufacturer datasheets.

Traditional method
Stopaq + Covalence
Coating recoated about every ten years
Lasts the service life of the pipe in the ground
Blasting and priming before application
Wire brushing to St 2 is enough, no primer
Coating cracks when the ground moves
The visco-elastic compound self-heals small defects
Can interfere with cathodic protection
Compatible with cathodic protection
Curing time before backfilling
Applied cold, can be covered immediately
Applied with a torch or by blasting
Applied cold, no torch

Benefits

What longer protection means for the network owner.

The same joint lasts longer in the ground and the work goes fast on site. The products ship from one warehouse in Tuusula.

Sealing a pipe joint on site, the install moving fast.

Longer service life lowers lifecycle cost

When a joint lasts in the ground for the service life of the pipe, that spot does not need to be dug up and recoated as often as a traditional coating.

Fewer maintenance shutdowns

Stopaq's self-healing protection fills small defects by itself, so a single point of damage does not start corrosion under the coating or trigger an unplanned repair.

Faster installation on site

Stopaq is applied cold, with no blasting and no primer. Wire brushing to cleanliness grade St 2 is enough, and the work is feasible even in tight excavations.

The pipe can stay in service during the work

Stopaq's cold application without a torch means that on many sites the pipe can stay in service for the whole job.

Compatible with cathodic protection

Stopaq does not interfere with cathodic protection, so the coating and the cathodic protection work together on long buried transmission lines.

One supplier for the whole joint

You get Covalence, Stopaq and BG Industry from the same Tuusula warehouse. We match the right product combination to the site and deliver across Finland.

Who it is for

Built for the organisations that own, build and maintain the networks.

The products are made for the people accountable for a pipe network's service life. Energy companies, contractors and industrial asset owners get the same protection from the same warehouse in Tuusula, across Finland.

District heating & energy utilities

A leaking joint means the street is dug up and heat supply is interrupted. An EN-489-tested joint lasts the service life of the pipe in the ground and lowers the network's lifecycle cost.

EPC contractors

The products can be specified straight into the contract and installed fast. Covalence and BG Industry are type-tested to EN-489:2009, and Stopaq is applied cold without blasting.

Maintenance & rehabilitation

Stopaq is applied cold by hand, often on a pipe in service. Even a small quantity ships quickly from stock in Tuusula.

Municipal water & heat utilities

One warehouse serves both the district heating and water networks, and Stopaq Wrappingband holds NSF/ANSI 61 approval for drinking-water contact.

Industrial & energy asset owners

For refineries, process piping and gas and oil lines. On a critical line a failure costs many times the protection. Stopaq's self-healing protection works together with cathodic protection.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

What does Kampek sell?
Kampek supplies corrosion protection and joint sealing systems for Finland's district heating, gas and oil networks. We represent three product families: Covalence heat-shrink sleeves, Stopaq self-healing polyisobutene protection and BG Industry heat-shrink joints. The warehouse is in Tuusula and we deliver across Finland.
How long does the protection last?
Stopaq and Covalence systems are designed to last in the ground for the service life of the pipe. A traditional coating is recoated about every ten years. The longer service life lowers lifecycle cost and reduces maintenance shutdowns.
Which standards are the products certified to?
District heating joint products (Covalence, BG Industry) are tested to EN-489:2009 by the FFI. Stopaq meets ISO 21809-3 and EN 12068 (KIWA), and Stopaq Wrappingband holds NSF/ANSI 61 approval for drinking water contact.
Is blasting required?
No blasting is needed to apply Stopaq. Wire brushing to cleanliness grade St 2 is enough, and no primer is used. This speeds up the work on site and works even in tight excavations.
Can the protection be applied to a pipe that is in service?
Yes. Stopaq is applied cold by hand, so the pipe can usually stay in service during the work. We confirm the right procedure for the site, so call us and we will look at it together.
Do you deliver across all of Finland?
We deliver throughout Finland from the Tuusula warehouse. The most common items are in stock. We confirm the exact delivery time with the quote, based on the project and quantity.
Where do I get installation instructions?
The detailed installation instructions are on the manufacturer's own pages, so they stay current. Product advice and installation help are available from Kampek by phone.
Who are the products for?
The products are for district heating and energy utilities, contractors, maintenance crews, municipal water and heat utilities, and industrial asset owners. What they share is demanding infrastructure where a failed joint can mean excavation and interruptions to supply.
