Stopaq
Polyisobutene-based self‑healing corrosion protection

Stopaq protects pipelines, field joints and fittings with a cold‑applied visco‑elastic polyisobutene (PIB) compound. The compound does not cure; it flows into surface irregularities and self‑heals small defects. Applied without primer and without blasting, and compatible with cathodic protection.
Stopaq, products
Cold‑applied visco‑elastic PIB wrap for the external corrosion protection of steel and ductile‑iron pipes, field joints and fittings, buried, submerged or above ground. It bonds without primer (wire brushing to St 2 is enough), self‑heals small dents and cracks, and does not interfere with cathodic protection. A mechanical overwrap, such as Stopaq Outerwrap, goes on top.
- Operating temperature
- −45 °C … +70 °C (thermal resistance +90 °C)
- Standards
- ISO 21809‑3 (type 13), EN 12068 (KIWA), NSF/ANSI 61
- Application
- Cold, by hand, no primer, no blasting
Polyisobutene‑based filler pumped hot into the annulus between a casing pipe and the carrier pipe, for example at road, rail and waterway crossings. As it cools it sets into a flexible mass that displaces water and oxygen, so corrosion cannot start. Compatible with cathodic protection.
- Operating temperature
- −20 °C … +35 °C
- Standard
- ISO 16440; salt‑spray ASTM B117 720 h
- Application
- Heated and pumped into the annulus
Polyethylene‑based mechanical protection tape with a butyl adhesive. Applied over the Stopaq wrap to protect it from impact and indentation. It resists acids and alkalis, installs cold and needs no curing time.
- Operating temperature
- −30 °C … +70 °C
- Standard
- ISO 21809‑3 (type 13A)
- Thickness
- 0.5 mm
Where this is used
- Buried pipelines
- Offshore field joints and splash zones
- Refineries and process piping
- Municipal water networks
- Corrosion under insulation (CUI)
Also for individuals and maintenance teams.
Stopaq doesn't have to be ordered in industrial volumes. Smaller batches, single rolls, and maintenance-sized sets ship directly from the Tuusula warehouse. Ask about pick-up or delivery options.
Coatings age. A self‑healing matrix does not.
