Each product family has its own surface prep and installation
Covalence is shrunk with a flame, Stopaq is pressed on cold, and the BG Industry sleeve is heat-shrunk without welding. The surface-prep requirement differs in each.
Wrap-around heat‑shrink sleeve for the joint casing of pre‑insulated pipe
Surface prep: The surface must be dry, clean and rust-free, at above +10 °C. Moisture stays trapped between sleeve and pipe if the surface is not dried properly.
Installation: Applied with a propane torch. RJS-E carries a dimpled Permanent Change Indicator on the backing that disappears once the correct shrink temperature is reached. Too hot scorches the polymer, too cold fails to melt the adhesive. Width follows the joint sleeve: roughly a 40 cm sleeve takes the 640 mm wrap, roughly a 50 cm sleeve the 770 mm wrap.
Check: Verify the sleeve has shrunk evenly across the joint and that adhesive has flowed at the edges. Both indicate a successful seal.
Cold-applied visco-elastic corrosion protection for steel pipe
Surface prep: This is the whole point of Stopaq: ST2 surface preparation is enough. Rust does not need to be ground off and may stay under the coating, as long as the surface is clean of dirt. No primer, no blasting.
Installation: The wrap is pressed on by hand. The visco-elastic compound flows into surface irregularities and forms a continuous seal without heating. A mechanical overwrap such as Outerwrap goes on top.
Check: The compound never dries, because it is an organic material. It shuts out oxygen and electrolyte, so the oxidation process stops. Small mechanical damage self-heals.
Prefabricated shrink sleeve for the joint between two pre‑insulated pipes
Surface prep: Clean and dry the casing surface where the sleeve bonds. The sleeve is chosen from a standard size series to match the pipe, so measuring and cutting fall away.
Installation: The sleeve is placed over the joint and heat-shrunk tightly around the casing; butyl mastic seals the connection. No welding is required, which removes hot-work steps from the trench.
Check: The joint is leak-testable, so its dryness can be verified before backfilling. Branches and terminations use their own products (tee and end sleeves).
