Pekka Maukola has worked in Finnish district heating for over forty years. His career began in the 1970s and 1980s at Helen, the Helsinki energy utility, continued in cooperation with KWH Thermopipe in Vaasa, and led to pipe-factory director roles in Finland, the United States and Canada. Along the way he moved into protective casings for pre‑insulated pipe, licensed casing technology from Denmark, and brought the foam-filled (kiinnivaahdotettu) pre‑insulated system to Finland. He has also run his own companies in Sweden and Finland.
The defining chapter came at Raychem in Belgium in the 1980s. There Pekka held a central role in product development and was involved in patenting the DualSeal joint sleeve; his name is on the patent applications. The invention was patented in 1984. It is the same product Kampek distributes today as Covalence RJS-E. Very few suppliers of joint protection helped develop the product they sell.
In 2000 Pekka founded Kampek Invest Oy. The company started in rented premises and later expanded to its own larger premises in Tuusula. It was built around what Pekka knew best: the right protection for the right joint. In 2017 leadership passed to the next generation when his son Petteri Maukola took over. Today Petteri is Managing Director and Mikko Partti handles the warehouse and deliveries. Kampek remains a small family business with a large company's experience in protecting joints.
